Greetings Members and Friends,
September 1, 2012
The Grand Ledge Area Historical Society Board of Directors shares a few thoughts with you. Summer has come and gone and fall signs are appearing and with it comes membership time for the society. In our 36 years of being a part of the Community of Grand Ledge we are thankful that we have been able to preserve our history with artifacts, archival information and experiences that have touched all ages in the community. Thanks to you for your support and the volunteering that makes so much of this possible.
A GLAHS theater night at Ledges Playhouse is on Sept. 6. The musical is: “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” presented by Over the Ledge Theater Co. Children $5, Seniors $8 and Patrons $10. Plan to come to the theater between 7:30 & 8:00 and pick up your discount coupon from John Herbstreit. Then purchase your ticket at the ticket window. Bring your friends and relatives.
Our first opportunity and call for support is the Huge Yard Sale (Little Trash and Lots of Treasures) to be held Friday and Saturday, September 14 & 15 from 9:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Your help is appreciated. If you can work at the sale, donate items; help others donate items or money, please call Mary at 627:7114 or 881-4083. The Place is 12399 Benton Road.
This year many interesting programs are planned. Everyone is welcomed: Oct. 2 – Things Remembered -Citizens Share; Nov.6-Art from the Museum. Dec. 1-Holiday Traditions Tour: Homes, Trees, Tables and Trims; Feb. 5 Lewis & Clark; March 5- Trash or Treasure; April 2- New Museum Exhibit; May 7 H.S. Theater: June 4 – Election of Officers And June 23 Garden Tour. This is a venue with variety.
Your Board has been working very hard to make this society a special part of this community and with this, much time has been spent in Strategic Planning and Reviewing how best to reach all ages in our Community. We are sorely in need of space as we increase the collection. We now have two rental spaces which come at a cost. The future needs volunteers. Our members need to assist as possible and perhaps can help us find volunteers among family and friends to assist in many different ways.
The Museum has provided wonderful experiences this year for many visitors and volunteers. Why not come and assist in keeping it open, see it for yourself and welcome our visitors at the same time.
We really thank you for your support. Your prompt membership renewals are appreciated. If you can encourage others to join, please do so. We are available to discuss any and all of your questions.
We have in the past year accepted with regret and thanked Dorrene Gilbert for special service given GLAHS over the many years, and Yvonne Smith for special service given as she leaves the society necessitated by a return to her original hometown. We welcome our new board members: Cathy Wilhm and John Gleason as they begin service to the community thru GLAHS.
