The annual Grand Ledge Garden Tour, sponsored by the local Historical Society, will be held Sunday, June 22, from 1-5 pm rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased for $6 presale, $2 for children under 12 years old at the Grand Ledge Library, The Grand Ledge Opera House, and at About the Home. Tickets the day of the Tour are $8 and available at each tour stop.
Seven lovely gardens plus the museum herb garden and a garden market will be showcased this year. Joining the tour are John and Connie Bartkowiak with their koi pond and perennial garden, Ron and Becky Sullenberger have a restful, quiet and private city yard. Art and Cindy Myers lovely old home welcomes visitors with an archway leading into a sunny perennial filled backyard with a new deck and pots of annuals. On down the road Robert and Annette Fortino have developed a difficult slope space into a sheltered and cool garden using shrubbery and flowers, while across the subdivision the Randy and Jennifer Gilbert's pool scape is decorated with colorful pots of annuals that overlook a beautiful woodland garden pathway. On out into the countryside we will visit the beautiful farm of Leo and Elva Maguire. The Maguire's are developing a garden in a dry area under dense, old maple trees. At the back door and near the barn are eye catching perennial gardens. The last stop in the tour is around the corner at the home of Dr. David and Peggy Smith. Here you find something for everyone; gardens, ponds, a pool, pergola, specimen plants, animals even vegetables.
